DR walt monthly family update

1. Still in Colorado Springs

The real estate market in Colorado Springs is still ice cold, and we’ve had no new showings in the last month. So, we’re taking it off the market and will likely re-list it after the holidays. We’re in no hurry to sell or leave Colorado, but once we sell, then we’ll be moving to Decatur, GA (in the Atlanta area). In the meantime, the fall weather here has been fabulous. Colorado has a spectacular autumn color season as you can see in the photo above of the Maroon Bells out near Aspen. ,Pikes Peak has already seen two heavy snows. We’re hunkering down for another winter in Colorado.

2. Two “At First Light” Veterans’ Day media releases

There were two pretty cool media releases for Veterans’ Days 2025 about my and Mike Yorkey’s book about my father, At First Light: A True World War II Story of a Hero, His Bravery, and an Amazing Horse.

1. WORLD magazine just printed an op-ed I wrote about Dad, “An officer and a Christian: A German sniper took my father’s leg, but his quiet faith reminds us to steward the liberties purchased so dearly by so many.” They published it in their November issue in honor of Veterans Day. Here’s the cartoon of me the magazine used. Just in time for Halloween!

2. Also, a major podcast, Ralph Pezzullo’s “Heroes Behind the Headlines,” just released a really nice 80-minute podcast titled, “Youngest WWII Officer Fights Hitler, Saves Horses, and MORE!“ You can find at the www.hbh.pod website. Click on the Monday, October 27, 2025 broadcast.

4. New Book Contracts

My agent, Greg Johnson, the founder and president of WordServe Literary, just let me know that our contract with Whitaker House has been completed. However, I’ve already been hard at work since September writing the devotional that they want about The Nicene Creed.

There is also a major publisher considering my proposal for a prayer devotional: Calling Abba: 365 Days to Finding the Closeness to God You Always Wanted. (read more about a 30-day release of these prayers above)

I’d appreciate your prayers for both of these projects as they represent a new direction in my writing about which I’m very excited.

  1. Don and Jan Wohlers says:

    Good morning Phil
When you mentioned Pensacola Beach, it reminded me of the last half of 1954 and the first half of 1955, when I spent my days in Pensacola working at getting my wings, which I got Nov 10, 1955. Yes, coming up 70 years ago.
Now for Jan and I. I do think you know Jan as she was the Executive Producer of FOF 1/2 hour radio program back in the late 1990’s. My wife, of many years, Barb, passed away in April 2001. I got together with Jan and we got married in 2002. She started have a bad case of dementia in 2017 but her boy’s did not want Mom in Memory Care. So I lived with it until my Brother-in-law, that lived in NE passed a way and my sister wanted me to come home and take care of ALL the funeral work. Mick and I had been class mates all through school years ago.
So one of Jan’s twin boys had to take care of her while I was gone those 10 days, as I stayed and visited other family members. When I got back, the first thing he said to me was “Mom is going to MC”. That was over four years ago. We have since lived in a very nice place with Jan in MC and I live in the Independent Part. I go down to MC just as they are starting to eat lunch and I help Jan eat right. She will order a hamburger and only eat the bun unless I am there to cut up the hamburger and get her to eat most of that, and things like that. Then I take her out of there and upstairs to our dining area and get decaf coffee for us. Then we spend a couple of hours walking around and doing several other things together. She does not like crowds, so we do not do many other things with others, other than like get Root Beer Floats, when they have them, and they did yesterday. Even in my 90’s, I get around well and still drive etc. But just doing this every day does get old, but as you know, we promised to Love THEM all the days of our lives, and I still do.

Blessings to you and ALL of your family
    DFW

    • WaltLarimore says:

      Hey Don,

Thanks for the update, friend. Thanks for your service to our country, and your love and devotion to Jan. She’s blessed to have you.

If you head to COS for anything, let me know. We could catch a visit over coffee.

      God bless.

      Walt
