1) My Father Qa inducted into the 3^rd Infantry Division’s Marne Hall of Fame

I’m over the moon delighted to share with you some great news. My father and my hero, MAJ Philip B. Larimore, Jr., was inducted into the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division’s Marne Hall of Fame at Fort Stewart Georgia on August 1, 2023.

I’m told that his election was, “By unanimous vote of the Command Staff of the 3rd Infantry Division.” This is a singular honor that’s been awarded to only a few soldiers such as Audie Murphy and some of the 3rd ID commanding generals. I was also told that Dad will be inducted along with Generals Dwight D. Eisenhower and George Marshall – pretty good company, if I don’t say so. He was also inducted with two of his commanding generals, General John W. “Iron Mike” O’Daniel and General Lionel C. McGarr.

My brothers, our spouses, and some of Dad’s grandchildren were there to honor his memory. You can see my blogs with additional details and pictures at:

You can learn more about my dad, who was the youngest ever graduate from the Army’s Officer Candidate School (OCS), the youngest commissioned Army officer in WWII, and one of the most decorated front line officers in Europe in the award winning book, At First Light: A True World War II Story of a Hero, His Bravery, and an Amazing Horse.

2) Other At First Light news

• The Philip B. Larimore, Jr. Exhibit will be opening on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the LSU Military Museum at the Memorial Tower. At an evening event, I’ll give a keynote talk about my dad and the book and will also have a book signing.

• Louisiana Book Festival: On October 28, 2023, in Baton Rouge, LA, At First Light will be featured at the Louisiana Book Festival. The events will be at the Old State Capital.

• Great reviews continue: The book has almost 500 reviews on Amazon, GoodReads, B&N, Walmart, and Target. Over 94% are 5-star ratings. What a blessing!

4) Last Month’s Happenings

• July 31-August 2, Barb and I, along with my three brothers, two of our spouses, and our two children attended the posthumous induction of my father, and my hero, Philip B. Larimore, Jr., into the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division’s Marne Hall of Fame at Fort Stewart Georgia. It was a marvelous event and we were so blessed. Details in the items above.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

• August 2-7, Barb and I had some delightful R&R at a condo on the beach at Hilton Head Island, GA. It was a blessedly relaxing time (especially since I’m married to a “beach girl”).
• The rest of August we were home for summer rest and relaxation. We did some gardening and took some long walks. It was marvelous.
• August 25, we begin a two-week vacation road trip through western Wyoming and Colorado.

5) Upcoming Events

• September 16-23, Barb and I will travel with our son, Scott, daughter-in-love, Jennifer, and the grands, Katherine and Sarah, to Stockholm, Sweden. Jennifer is traveling professionally for Agnes Scott College (where she’s a professor). The rest of us are planning to make memories for a lifetime.
