1. Our move is still on hold Still in Colorado Springs

We’re still trying to decide when to put our home back on the market. Prayers appreciated for wisdom. Maybe in February. We’ll see.

2. Medical Procedures Month
Barb has been a great nurse during and after the three medical procedures I’ve had this month:
- I had cataracts removed in both eyes and Intraocular lens placed. The difference has been dramatic.
- Earlier this week I had a Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH). I’m four days post op and recovery has gone extremely well.
3. My newest devotion just released on the YouVersion App

I’ve just had my newest devotion, Discovering the Ancient Faith That Anchors Christianity A 47-Day Devotional to the Cross, release on the free YouVersion App. It’s only been out a few days but it already has almost 1,400 subscribers in 47 countries, which is amazing to me. I hope you’ll take a look at it.
Also releasing in the next week or two is “A Lenten Journey to the Cross. 45 Days from Ash Wednesday to Easter through the Nicene Creed.” Hopefully the link will take you to a preview. If you want to start it, I’d recommend beginning of Ash Wednesday which is February 18, 2026, this year. It marks the start of the 40-day Lenten season in Western Christianity, characterized by a time of fasting, prayer, and reflection.

4. Update on my two new books

-
We Believe: The Nicene Creed—The Ancient Confession that Unites All Christians: 35 Devotions for Disciples, Disenchanted, Doubters, and Deconstructed (tentative title) is due to be turned into Whitaker House on March 1. I’m on schedule to have it turned in on time. Yea!!!
-
Calling Abba: 365 Days to Finding the Closeness to God You Always Wanted was turned down by all of the publishers to which Greg Johnson, my agent, submitted it. I’m still praying about self-publishing it. I’ll let you know what happens.

6. Last Month’s Happenings
- January 1-5, we were still in in Decatur, GA, celebrating New Year’s with son, Scott, DIL, Jeniffer and our grands – as well as spending some time house hunting. We found one we love, but it won’t be on the market until March.
- January 5-11, we were in Baton Rouge to celebrate Barb’s sister, Sue’s, 70th Barb, Sue, and brother Greg, all share the same birthday, January 6, on different years.
- While in Baton Rouge I came down with food poisoning. The first few days were miserable, and the side effects lasted a couple of weeks. But I’m back to good health.
- January 30-February 1, Barb and her sister Sue were visiting with our niece (and Sue’s daughter) Laura in Dallas. They try to do this a couple of times a year and always have a wonderful time together.

Dear Walt,
What a month you have had! Wishing you a speedy recovery. It’s amazing how light and bright everything is after cataract surgery. I had mine done several years ago and it was a great outcome. That food poisoning would have been horrible!
I’m praying for the Lord’s timing regarding the sale of your home. Hope your move will be during pleasant weather. We are in the southern part of Florida through March and it was 29 degrees this morning! Yikes!
On another note, have you ever thought about doing Facebook reels? Dr. Brian Hoefflinger (neurosurgeon, Toledo, Ohio) produces short, one minute clips that he posts on Facebook several times a week. He has more than a million followers. He shares one topic at a time. It made me think of your days on Ask the Family Doctor, how you shared practical info to educate the public. If you were to do this, you would have a wider variety of topics to share, plus could weave your faith into it. A couple of Cleveland Clinic docs also produce reels too. Something to think about and pray about.
Blessings to you and Barb,
Judy
Hello Judy,
Thanks for the kind words, prayers, and friendship. All are appreciated more than I can say. And, I appreciate the encouragement on the reels. Will consider. Blessings,
Walt
Dear Dr. Walt,
I have just discovered you while looking for a Lent plan in YV. While investigating your 47 day Nicene plan I found so many interesting things about you and your lifetime of ministry. I look forward to your plan with my small group this season.
My question for you may seem strange but is information I am seeking for my upcoming cataract surgery.
Did you choose monofocular or multifocular lens for your eyes? I am a fairly healthy 71 yr old female that seriously dislikes the glare and halo’s at night, but I also need to read the GPS directions on the car/phone screen day and night. Cost is not an object at this time.
Sleeping pills are my only medication, and osteoporosis is my basic physical problem but I do suffer with “negative side effect syndrome”. I wonder if you are familiar with this issue? It is a lot like “ accident prone” but with assorted side effects from most medications and procedures. This is the reason for wanting to choose the best possible procedure for the upcoming surgery.
Thank you for any time and effort you might share with me.
Pam
Dear Pam,
Thanks for the note. I hope the “47-Day Lenten Journey to the Cross Through the Nicene Creed” that’s on YouVersion (https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/66705-a-47-day-lenten-journey-to-the-cross-throu) will be a blessing for you and your friend. The book version, tentatively titled, The Creed: 35 Devotions for Understanding and Living the Authentic Christian Faith, is scheduled for release by Whitaker House early in 2027.
Working with my ophthalmologist, I chose the Clareon Vivity Toric UV Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) lens. It’s worked out very well for me. But, of course, you’ll need to work with your doctor(s) to make the right decision for you. There are a number of excellent websites that discuss the cost, risk, and benefits of the many various options.
Blessings on your Lenten journey.
Dr. Walt
