1. BIG NEWS: We’re relocating to the Atlanta area

Decatur, Georgia
For those who missed last month’s announcement, Barb and I will be relocating from Colorado Springs to Decatur, GA (in the Atlanta area) sometime this summer. Our house went on the market in early June.
We’ve lived in the Springs longer than we’ve lived anywhere — almost 25 years. We’ll miss our close friends, amazing church family, and fruitful ministries (marriage, discipleship, and Bible study groups), but are certain the Lord has a new work and church community for us there
Our reasons for relocating to Atlanta are (1) family and (2) health.
- In Decatur, we’ll be very close to Scott, Jen, and the granddaughters and will cherish that. Also, my sleep apnea and nocturnal hypoxia (low oxygen levels) are altitude-related.
- I have altitude-related sleep apnea and low oxygen levels at night. In Atlanta, I’ll be off CPAP and nighttime oxygen, will not need Inspire surgery, and it is higly likely my mild right heart issues will quickly normalize.
So, it’s time for a major move and a new chapter for us.
Unfortunately, the market here is soft with the high interest rates. We’ve only had four lookers in four weeks, although one has revisited and put her house on the market ostensibly to buy ours. We’ll see. Likely to old saying goes, “It only takes one right buyer.”

2. I’ll be on The 700 Club on July 4th
I was honored interviewed about my award-winning book, At First Light: A True World War II Story of a Hero, His Bravery, and an Amazing Horse, for the July 4th Special on The 700 Club.
Here are some photos their staff took of the taping, which was in their Virginia Beach studio on Friday, June 13, 2025.
I was interviewed by the co-host, Terry Meeuswen. I’ve been interviewed by her in the past, once about 10 years ago and also about 20 years ago. She was Miss America in 1973 and before that toured with The New Christy Minstrels. She has not aged a bit!
The Freeform cable network, formerly known as ABC Family network, broadcasts the 700 Club each weekday at 9:00 am ET/PT (8:00 am CT) and repeats it at 11:00 pm ET/PT (10:00 pm CT) and again at 3:00 am ET/PT (2:00 am CT). For those in Mountain time, it depends if the local cable system takes the East Coast feed (which means it would air at 7:00 am, 9:00 pm and 1:00 am MT) or the West coast feed (which means it would air at 10:00 am, midnight and 4:00 am MT). In Colorado Springs, the 700 Club is seen at 10:00 am MT on KWHS- TV 51.
Here are the sites where the 700 Club social media team will post a link to watch this interview:
- Instagram: @the700club
- Facebook: The 700 Club
- YouTube: The 700 Club
After the holiday on Mon, July 7, I will be posting a link to the interview if you miss watching it live.
3. Wonderful 5-star review for At First Light
I’ve learned At First Light, has been nominated for a book award in several genres by Readers’ Favorite Book Reviews. Here’s their reviewer, Asher Syed’s, review of the book. Wowzer, what a nice review:
At First Light by Walt Larimore and Mike Yorkey tells the remarkable true story of a young officer whose life in World War II reads like a script pulled from forgotten archives of American bravery.
From battlefield leadership to a post-war mission few could imagine, Phil Larimore’s journey is filled with moments that speak of grit, duty, and heart.
The authors bring the past to life with a clear sense of place and time, balancing historical accuracy with storytelling that moves with purpose.
The book doesn’t just recount events, it honors them, reminding readers of the cost of freedom and the character of those who fought to defend it.
This isn’t just a war story; it’s a story about what it means to lead, to serve, and to carry a legacy worth remembering.
A truly unforgettable read.
They will be announcing the award winners in September

6. Last Month’s Happenings
- Our house is on the market. We’re praying for just the right family to come along and purchase our wonderful home. Once that happens, we’ll be heading to Decatur to house shop.
- I’m hosting my final monthly men’s ministry meetings in July — the 2nd Saturday with a group of physicians and the 3rd Saturday with some old friends.
- I’ll also be ending my weekly mentor meetings with Coach Bob Lord and my monthly accountability meetings with two of my pastors, Bryan Myers and Richard Crabtree. These men have meant so very much to me these last few years.

7. Upcoming events
- July 4, we’ll be gathering with Charles, Kate, and friends to watch my segment on The 700 Club (see above) and then celebrating together our country’s birthday.
- I guess I’d have to describe this coming month as being a month of watchful waiting. Should we have an acceptable offer on the house, from then until closing, we’ll be packing and boxing as well as making a trip or two to Decatur to house hunt. Prayers would be appreciated.
