My favorite Christmas video of all time — The Inn Keeper’s Dream

I suspect each of you, like me, have special memories of extraordinary events that occurred for you or your family during Christmas seasons past, yes? Maybe a special meal, a unique trip, a family event, or a Christmas concert of movie. This Christmas season I want to share with you my favorite Christmas video ever.

Order THE INN KEEPER’S DREAM with DAVID SHELDON here

The video, titled “The Inn Keepers Dream,” that was recorded by my friend, actor and author David Sheldon almost 40 years ago, uses an older technology. The video is NOT HD, not even close. But the message is as modern as today and as old as time. David graduated to glory in 2017, but his memory lives on in this and his many other performances.

The video is embedded in a TV show, “Ask Dr. Walt” that I hosted a couple of years ago on LiftableTV. If you click on this link, you’ll not only find “The Inn Keeper’s Dream” video, but the interview I did with David’s wife, Debra. And, if you love this video as much as I do, you can order a copy of a DVD of the performance here.

I hope this Christmas special will be a blessing to you and yours:

I suspect each of you, like me, have special memories of extraordinary events that occurred for you or your family during Christmas seasons past, yes? Maybe a special meal, a unique trip, a family event, or a Christmas concert of movie. This Christmas season I want to share with you my favorite Christmas memory ever. You don’t want to miss this Christmas special on Ask Dr. Walt.

OPEN:

Hi, everyone. I’m family physician Dr. Walt Larimore and I’m delighted you are taking the time today to join me at my home for this special Christmas event. When Barb and I moved to Colorado in 2001 so I could assume the position of Vice President and Physician in Residence at Focus on the Family, one of our staff brought an audio of a one-man play to me. It was called “The Innkeeper’s Dream” as was recorded by an amazing Christian actor, David Shelton. The first time I heard it, I couldn’t stop the tears. Fortunately, David gave Focus permission to play it as a Christmas special on our national program before Christmas for several years. It was always one of the listener’s most favorite programs of the year. So, I’m very, very pleased that David’s ministry has graciously granted me special permission to share this awe-inspiring Christmas performance with you. I pray it will bless you as it has me and my family for the last two decades. So, without further ado, here’s my friend, David Shelton and The Innkeeper’s Dream.

RUN VIDEO

David Shelton was a pioneer of using drama to bring the Bible to life. He considered his dramatic and musical gifting as vehicles to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. From 1977 until 2006, David traveled over 500,000 miles making the Bible come to life by performing biblical characterizations; whole books of the Bible; allegorical storytelling; and many mimes and inspiring songs. I especially love his one-man dramas, including The Apostle Peter, The Prophet Jonah, The Prophet Elijah, Boaz, and even Pilate. They are all wonderful. David served the Lord with his gifts until Alzheimer’s took him from the stage in 2005. A special joy for Barb and me was to meet David and his precious wife, Debra, at a speaking event near their home. I was able to tell him how he had impacted my life, my family, and our listeners around the world. My, what an evening we shared. I only wish he could be with me here, now. But after a courageous 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s, the Lord called him to glory in 2012. However, we do have the opportunity to meet Debra as she joins us from her home. Debra, welcome to Ask Dr. Walt.

  • Debra, thanks so much for granting us special permission to introduce a new generation to David and “The Innkeeper’s Dream.”
  • Tell us a bit about this special man and your marriage.
  • How often did you travel with him? Any fond memories to share?
  • David’s legacy continues through DVDs and CDs of his many performances including biblical characters, straight scripture like the books of James and Philippians, an allegorical trilogy called “The Great King,” and all of his one-man dramas. Where can our viewers find these? [www.davidshelton.org]

THANK DEBRA.

Wow, another wonderful Christmas memory for me . . . and I hope for you and yours.

So, until our next visit, “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” Merry Christmas from my family and all of our Liftable TV family to you and yours.
