Barb and I are Walking for a Cancer Cure: Your Gift Is Doubled This Week

One week until Barb and I walk in the Winship 5K for cancer research at Emory! A generous donor will match new gifts to Team Larimore up to $4,000, so every dollar you give right now counts twice, and 100% goes to research.

Walking for a Cure: Help Team Larimore Double Its Impact

Excerpt: One week before the Winship 5K, a generous donor has offered to match every new gift to Team Larimore, up to $4,000. Here’s how you can help, even if you’ve already given.

Next Saturday, October 3, Barb and I will lace up our walking shoes for the Winship 5K in Atlanta. Every step raises money for cancer research at Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute, Georgia’s only National Cancer Institute–designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The response so far has been remarkable. The Winship 5K has raised more than $900,000 toward its $1 million goal, and our own Team Larimore has passed $12,000.

Now we have a match.

A generous donor has offered to match up to $4,000 in new gifts to Team Larimore. So we’ve raised our goal to $20,000. Between now and the walk, every new gift counts twice:

  • $50 becomes $100
  • $100 becomes $200
  • $250 becomes $500

Best of all, 100% of every gift goes directly to cancer research. There are no administrative fees.

Already given? Thank you! Barb and I are deeply grateful. You don’t need to give again, but would you consider sharing this post with a friend or family member? Each new gift they make will be doubled, too.

Why this matters to us. In my four decades as a family physician, I walked alongside many patients through cancer diagnoses and treatments. It’s a terrible foe, and the treatments can be brutal. But research is how we fight back, and it’s why so many people who once had little hope now have years ahead of them.

Nearly all of us know someone who has faced cancer: a parent, a spouse, a friend, someone in our church or neighborhood. Giving or sharing this post takes only a minute, and it’s one simple way to join the fight.

Let’s use every dollar of that match and help push the Winship 5K past $1 million!

With gratitude,

Walt and Barb
