I enjoy penning a bi-monthly column for the readers of Today’s Christian Living magazine. Here is the link to the most recent issue, July 2024. My column, “Understanding Your Health: Six Questions to Review with Your Family Physician“ is on pages 14-15. Below is the final question of the six in this seven-part series.
Good sleep quality is essential for overall health and well-being.
Poor sleep can lead to a range of issues, including impaired cognitive function, weakened immune response, and increased risk of chronic conditions.
To improve sleep quality, establish a regular sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time each day.
Create a sleep-friendly environment by ensuring your bedroom is dark, quiet, and cool.
Avoid stimulants like caffeine or chocolate, alcohol, and electronic screens before bedtime, since these can interfere with your ability to fall asleep or obtain a deep, restful sleep.
Engaging in relaxing activities, such as reading, prayer, meditation, scripture reading or memorization, or taking a warm bath, can help signal to your body that it’s time to wind down.
If sleep issues persist, consult your family physician to rule out sleep disorders such as insomnia or sleep apnea, which may require specific treatments.
Here are the six questions in this series and a link to some resources for you to consider:
