Final loading of Phil’s 30th Infantry Regimental troops, along with the 3rd Infantry Division troops, was completed on 8 August, 1944.[1]

On August 8, the various units of the convoy began getting underway, to rendezvous later.

As yet only a few of the troops knew their final destination.[2]

The impending invasion in Southern France would mark the fourth time in World War Two that the 3rd Division invaded a hostile shore on a D-Day.[3] It would be the fifth time is you counted the D-Day plus 3 of the Salerno, Italy invasion.
