28 June to 14 July 44, the intensive training for large-scale amphibious operations was divided into three periods of five days each, followed by a day of rest, in which at least ten percent of the command were given passes.[1]

28 June 44, upon arrival at it new bivouac area near Pozzuoli, the 3rd Infantry Division began preparations for intensive training for large-scale amphibious operations.

Training was divided into three periods of five days each, followed by a day of rest. The first five day period got under way on June 28.[2]

Unit training was generally similar to that which had become familiar to all 3rd Infantry veterans, with one important difference. Departing from the former practice of having one battalion per regiment trained as a beach-assault battalion, all infantry personnel were given training in the assault of beach defenses.[3]
