Day 20 — Heading home from our wonderful Great Britain and Ireland Adventure

Today we head home from our amazing adventures in  Great Britain (London, Scotland, Northern Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland. This was the trip we’ve always hoped and dreamed we could make one day. We hope you have enjoyed coming along with us vicariously!

I) London

  1. Travel to London
  2. London – Walk the Thames, Churchill War Museum, Trafalgar, National Portrait Gallery
  3. London – St. Paul’s Cathedral, Bus tour, Evening Song at Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, cruise on the River Thames
  4. London – Tower of London & the Crown Jewels, Borough Market, The Shard
  5. London – the British Library, the British Museum, pre-theater dinner at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, and a performance of Hamilton

II) Scotland

  1. Train London to Edinburgh, walk in Edinburgh, meet up with our tour
  2. Edinburgh – City Tour, Edinburg Castle and the Crown Jewels, St. Margaret’s Chapel, and their amazing National Gallery
  3. Edinburgh to Inverness – Lindores Abbey Distillery tour, St. Andrews, Scone Palace, Cairngorms National Park and the Aviemore resort gardens
  4. Isle of Skye, Portree, Eilean Donan Castle, Loch Ness, Invermoriston Falls
  5. Fort Augustus, Fort William, Ben Nevis, the spectacular Glencoe highlands, Loch Lomond, the Trossachs, Scotland’s 1st National Park, and then the Glasgow Olde Towne
  6. Glasgow City Tour, George Square, Glasgow Cathedral, the amazing Sterling Castle, and the Bannocockburn Battle Memorial, and a “Sunday Roast”

III) Northern Ireland

  1. Trump Turnberry, Ferry to Belfast, Titanic Exhibit, bus tour of Belfast, signing the Peace Wall
  2. The “Giant’s Causeway,” drive along the Antrim coast, city tour of Derry, Peace Bridge

IV) Republic of Ireland

  1. Drive to Donegal, Weaving demonstration, Classiebawn Castle, Sligo, Knock Shrine, and a tour of Galway
  2. Connemara National Park, Dan O‘Hara’s Farmhouse, a statue where “on this site in 1897, nothing happened,” Kylemore Abbey Estate, a walk of Galway Olde town
  3. Drive along Galway Bay, The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle and Farm, the village of Adare, through the “wilds” to Killarney, and a Gaelic Roots Live Show
  4. A breathtaking drive around the Ring of Kerry, a Sheep dog demonstration, remote villages, the lakes of Killarney, then an afternoon in Old Town Killarney
  5. A drive through scenic southern Ireland to the Blarney Castle, Blarney stone, the amazing gardens, and Blarney Woolen Mills, then a drive to and walk around Dublin
  6. Dublin City Tour, Phoenix Park, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the oldest Pub in the world, Guinness Brewery, Dublin Castle, Trinity College, Book of Kelly, the Library Long Room
  7. Travel Home

    This sounds like a trip I would love to make with my wife.

    Thanks for sharing. Hope to see you in the Chattanooga Tennessee area some time. You could visit the Medal of Honor museum, WHERE YOUR DAD DESERVED to be featured!

      Thanks for the note and the feedback. I hope you get to make the trip sometime. We throughly enjoyed it.

      It would be great to meet you, should travels bring me that way. At one time the museum there was going to have me come talk. But unfortunately that never happened.
