June 3, 2024Our 20-day adventure in Great Britain and Ireland is coming to a close. It’s a trip we’ve always hoped and dreamed we could make one day. We hope you’ve enjoyed coming along with us vicariously!
A morning drive took us through the scenic south of Ireland into enchanting County Cork for a visit to storied 15th century Blarney Castle.
We had an opportunity to kiss the legendary Blarney Stone. Here’s some information on the stone’s mythology. It’s worth double clicking on the photos to enlarge them to read the stories:
Laying down, and bending backwards, while holding the poles while several stories above the ground is interesting to say the least. Barb chose not to, as she did NOT want the promised “gift of gab” for kissing the stone. Someone else in our Familly, as the picture above documents, went for it. However, we both had to spend some “time out” in the courtyard before touring the beautiful grounds and gardens.
We spent some time shopping at the Blarney Woollen Mills before driving to energetic Dublin, one of the friendliest cities in Europe.
Upon arrival, saw the city’s contrasting architecture from modern “Celtic Tiger” hi-tech business districts to grand neoclassical facades, accented by lovely views of the River Liffey.
Tonight, got acquainted with this friendly city on your own. We strolled leisurely along Temple Bar with its charming narrow cobbled streets, fabulous restaurants and cozy pubs.
Joe, Connie, Barb, and I and ended the evening in the Church Pub, a beautiful old church that had been redone as a restaurant. We enjoyed the traditional “Sunday Roast” (google it) along with Irish lagers, singing, and dancing.
Our hotel had a most unusual lamp in the lobby? We “horsed around” taking pictures of it. Then, off to bed.
