Day 10 — Our Scotland and Ireland Adventure

We’re close to finishing our time in Scotland, the second portion of our 20-day adventure in Great Britain and Ireland, a trip we’ve always hoped and dreamed we could make one day. We hope you enjoy coming along with us vicariously!

This morning we left Inverness, and headed south to some of the highest and most beautiful portions of the highlands. It’s a region steeped in legend, folklore, and history.

The journey takes us past Ben Nevis, Scotland’s mighty mountain and through the amazing and spectacular beautiful Glencoe area with its glimmering lakes and thick, sheltered forests.

After stops at Fort Augustus and Fort William, including an amazing set of locks that connected two lochs, we arrived on the “bonnie banks” of Loch Lomond, immortalized in song. It’s the largest freshwater lake in the United Kingdom.

We enjoyed a relaxing and delightful cruise around the lake  that offered vistas of pretty villages, tranquil scenery and the Trossachs, Scotland’s first National Park, an area commemorated in the writings of poet Sir Walter Scott.

Barb love seeing all the sheep that seemed to be grazing everywhere. However, this was her favorite one of all.

In late afternoon, we completed our day’s travel in the sophisticated city of Glasgow. The late afternoon and evening involved walking around the city center and enjoying a delicious Scottish dinner.,

We’ll get to be earlier tonight than usual. We’re looking forward to catching up on a “wee” bit of slumber.

Talk to you again tomorrow.
