A Thanksgiving prescription for you and yours!

My Thanksgiving prescription for you and your family is to try a simple five-minute exercise every day between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I liken it to taking an emotional aspirin every day.

  • Keep a small journal at your bedside. Each night before going to sleep, record five things for which you were grateful that day.
  • Then, for a minute or two, reflect on each item you recorded and thank God for the blessings He’s given you.
  • See what happens to your feelings over the course of just a few days.

Here’s another prescription you could fill this Thanksgiving Holiday:

  • The next time something bad, irritating, or disappointing happens to you — or the next time you find yourself brooding over an unpleasant experience — stop yourself.
  • Choose instead — right away — to find a reason to be grateful.
  • Don’t be surprised to find your attitude change instantly!

Or, as I often tell patients: Your struggles may begin to end when your gratitude begins. If you want to turn your health around, try thankfulness.

After all, this is, in fact, God’s perfect will for you. As St. Paul penned, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV).

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!Dr. Walt

My name is Marlene and I am 73 years old. I weigh 135 lbs. My triglycerides are over 400 and I have always had high cholesterol, because my mother has had it. And two of my brothers have it. One brother who is now 75 recently had a stroke and my father had one when he was in his 70’s. My dr wants me on Crestor 5 mg. I tried it and I didn’t like the way I felt drugged. . I am also on Duloxetine 60 mg a day, Levothyroxine 25 mcg. A day,
Lansoprazole 30 mg a day, Tylenol 3000 mg a day, Ipratropium Bromide Nasal Spray. Do I need to be on a Statin? I have heard so much bad about them.
