Hi, everyone. I’m family physician, Dr. Walt Larimore, with an Apple a Day. And this one was news to me!
A recent study found that people who consistently ate fruits with lunch or vegetables with dinner had a lower risk of death from cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and other causes, compared with those who followed typical Western diets.
The researchers also found that snacking on fruit after breakfast or dairy-based foods after dinner was associated with benefits, compared with starchy snacks.
The findings in the Journal of the American Heart Association suggest that the optimal consumption time for fruit was likely in the daytime, say breakfast, lunch, and daytime snacks.
The optimal consumption time for vegetables appeared to be at dinner.
Finally, the researchers noted that dairy-based snacks may be best in the evening.
I’m Dr. Walt Larimore with your Apple a Day.
