Monthly Family Update – November 2022

Here are the contents of this month’s newsletter:

  1. Public Relations Campaign for Veteran’s Day
  2. Readers Love At First Light

1) Public Relations Campaign for Veteran’s Day

Ascot Media has taken over the PR work for my WWII book, At First Light, leading up to Veteran’s Day. In the first 16 days of their campaign, they’ve been quite successful. I’ve already completed three interviews that you may find interesting.

Here’s the latest from Ascot: There are 8 positive “hits” in the last 16 days (the top three are completed and five are pending). There are another 12 “hits” pending scheduling (including inquiries from NPR, CBS, a Los Angeles TV station, and the Boston Globe).

  1. 10/27/22 – Business News This Week article.
  2. 10/27/22 – Anez Sez Podcast – Walt’s 30-minute interview with Scott Anez of WDBO Radio in Orlando, FL.
  3. 10/28/22 – The Bill Martinez National Radio Show – Walt’s 30-minute interview is in hour #3 of the show (10/28/22)

  1. 10-24-22 — The book is in Review by Jim Cox of Midwest Book Review and David D. Kindy who has reviewed books for the Boston Globe and Providence Journal (as of 10/24/22)
  2. 10-28-22 — Will record a podcast with William Ramsay Investigates, which is listed in the top 1% of all podcasts globally
  3. 10-07-22 — Will record a live interview with The Jeff Kennedy Show on The Legend 93.5 FM and 930 AM in Flagstaff AZ
  4. 11-11-22 — Will record a live interview on Westwood One’s The Jim Bohannon Show (with substitute host Rich Valdes)
  5. 01-23-23 — Will record a live interview on the Moments with Marianne Radio Show on KMET 1490AM

2) Readers Love At First Light

In addition, I’m delighted that the book has received over 96% 5-star ratings on Amazon (96 ratings), Barnes & Noble(41), GoodReads (60), Walmart (37), and Target (33).

Quite a number of reviewers comment that it’s the best or one of the best WWII books that they’ve ever read, and quite a few say they think it should be made into a movie.

From their lips to God’s ears, as the old saying goes. If you haven’t read it, I hope you will. And if you have, I hope you’ll leave a 5-star review on Amazon, B&N, and GoodReads. Thanks.

3) Last Month’s Happenings

  • We continued to direct the ReEngage Marriage Ministry at Academy Christian Church this month. It’s such a blessing for us.
  • Oct 13-18, Barb and I had a wonderful few days of R&R at Pensacola Beach. We’ve gone every summer for most of our lives. We had perfect weather, loved looking for shells and getting our toes in the sand, and had quality time with Barb’s sister, Sue, her brother Greg and his wife Jackie. Just what the doctor ordered!
  • Oct 20, Barb and I were in Cody, Wyoming, where I spoke at the annual fundraising banquet for the Serenity Pregnancy Resource Center. We absolutely love serving these wonderful centers. It was a fabulous event.
  • Oct 21, I was honored to share with a group of Christian healthcare professionals on “How to Bring Your Faith to Work With You in Healthcare.” We had a great time with this group. We also spent some time touring three of the five amazing museums at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. If you’re ever in Cody, don’t miss this special place.
  • Oct 22, Barb and I led a two-hour marriage seminar, “How to Have a Crazy Good Marriage,” for Pastor Tim Morrow and his congregation at New Life Church in Powell, Wyoming. There was a lot of laughter and more than a few “Ah ha’s,” “Oh, my’s” and “Dear me’s”! It was a joy for us. Then we caught an afternoon plane home and made it out of Cody just as their first blizzard was blowing in.

4) Upcoming Events

  • We’ll continue directing the ReEngage Marriage Ministry at Academy Christian Church this month.
  • November 10-15, Barb and I will be in Asheville, North Carolina, where I’ll be speaking at a Veteran’s Day event and fundraiser for the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry.
  • November 17-21, we’ll travel to Chicago for some R&R while celebrating our 49th wedding anniversary.
  • November 21-25, we’ll travel to Atlanta to spend Thanksgiving with Scott, Jen, and the Grands.
