Have you heard about the polypill therapy that is very effective in heart patients?

A report in Cardiovascular Business revealed that taking a polypill – a single pill containing three different medications – not only improved medication adherence but was associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular death and other adverse events.

It’s important to note that this study was in patients who had had a heart attack in the past.

The research was published in the New England Journal of Medicine and also presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress.

The SECURE study followed 2,500 patients who had suffered a previous heart attack (also called a myocardial infarction) over a median of 36 months.

Those who took the polypill containing ramipril, aspirin, and atorvastatin had a 24% lower risk of cardiovascular death, nonfatal myocardial infarction or stroke, or emergency coronary revascularization than people who received usual care.

Ramipril is a blood pressure medication and atorvastatin is a cholesterol medication.
