Healthful diet and exercise needed to reduce your risk of dying prematurely

August 26, 2022Dear Dr. Walt,
My husband and I were reading about the obesity epidemic in America and were disheartened at just how many children are obese. What recommendations do you have for those of us with young children or grandchildren?

Dear Protector of Progeny,
There’s a resource I wrote for Florida Hospital in Orlando (now AdventHealth Florida) that’s still remarkably timely. It’s titled, SuperSized Kids: How to protect your child from the obesity threat.
The book has an 8-week LEVEL 1 and an 8-week LEVEL 2 family health plan that includes choices for families to make together about nutrition, physical activity, sleep, screen time, etc.
In a small unpublished study that we did testing this plan, almost all of the parents and children improved their health together.
You can find used copies of the book at multiple sites on the Internet including Amazon.
Also, the 8-week and 16-week family health plans are available at no cost at www.DrWalt.com. Just scroll to the bottom of the home page and look under “Health Tools for Parents.”

There’s no charge for either.
