Saturday Book Videos – Coauthor Mike Yorkey referees a “fight” between fans AND the book trailer

I love my coauthor, Mike Yorkey. We’ve collaborated on two books over the last two decades: God’s Design for the Highly Healthy Teen (2004) and At First Light: A True World War II Story of a Hero, His Bravery, and an Amazing Horse (2022). Mike recently met a couple that was “fighting” over our WWII book.

Mike sent along this video of the exchange that was taken by his father. I thought you’d enjoy getting to see Mike and hear this neat couple talk about “At First Light” and share what they thought about it: Jim and Katie discuss At First Light with CoAuthor Mike Yorkey

Also, Rick Portier is a videographer and feature reporter for WAFB 9News in Baton Rouge who I met during the World Premiere of the book in Baton Rouge in April when he did a news story that was carried around the world by the Associated Press (here’s the story from U.S. News and World Report). Rick was kind enough to produce this video trailer for At First Light. Let me know what you think. Trailer – First Light – Portier – 1080 – 2022-06-29

    Walt,
I recently finished At First Light, and I had to tell you how much I loved it. Your father was a true war hero, an amazing man. Your story put me right with him and his comrades. I felt like I really began to understand the horror of war, having to accept the killing of the enemy, watching your friends and fellow soldiers die and be able to do nothing to help them. Of course these men came home with PTSD, shell shock, or whatever they chose to call it. Also I see why they preferred not to discuss it. I also found out that my husband’s uncle, Tom Hasbrouck, was in Italy and France the exact time your Dad was. Amazing. It also gave me a picture of a relatively small part of the war and also how very large it was, covering so much of our earth. So many men fighting and so many lost forever, so many grieving families. Thank you for bringing it all to life.
I received the book recommendation from my friend, Penny Dail, and I have recommended it to many people. Barb and I also became acquainted in BSF years ago.

    • Sharon,

I’m so happy you’ve read At First Light. Thanks for the feedback and kind words. They are an encouragement, affirmation, and blessing for me. I’m only sad that so many millions (literally) of these stories have never and will never be told. Like you, I understand why, but it still saddens me.

I do have a favor to ask of you, any of your friends who read the book, and any other of our readers: If you think it’s worthy of a 5-star review, could you write one and post it on a few book review websites for me?

      GENERAL TIPS:

      1) DO NOT MENTION YOU KNOW ME — be sure to NOT mention knowing me. Refer to me as “the author” or by “Walt Larimore” in your review if you even mention me at all.
      2) BE YOU, NOT A MARKETER — describe what YOU enjoyed about the book or what YOU took away from reading it. Think feelings when writing, aka how you FELT while reading the book or after you finished reading the book. NOT facts about the book. Remember: “FEELINGS more than FACTS!” An easy way to tell if you’re too market-y is if there are too many “you’s” in your review – ex: “You will enjoy this book …”
      3) NO EXTENSIVE QUOTES OR PROMO IMAGES — don’t include extensive quotes from the book or any promotional images. If you want to use an image, be sure it’s something you took of your eReader or of your physical book when it arrives.
      4) VIEW OTHER REVIEWS — On Amazon.com you can go to the “At First Light” book page at https://amzn.to/3Lp0MCw, then scroll down the page, and see the Amazon Top-Rated Customer Reviews. That will give you an idea of the type of reviews that they are not only likely to post but are likely to post high on the list.
      5) TYPE OUT YOUR REVIEW — it can be a paragraph or two or as short as a sentence or two. You can use the same review on each of these sites. If you can’t do them all, I’d be delighted if you’d do as many as you can (but in this order):

      · For Amazon, go to https://amzn.to/3Lp0MCw, scroll down the page to “Customer Reviews” and click on “Write a customer review.” Do the 5-star rating, then give your review a title, then copy and paste your review into the comment.
      · For GoodReads, go to https://tinyurl.com/5y8nb2e7, scroll down to “Community Reviews”, and click on “Write a review”, then repeat above.
      · For Barnes & Noble, go to https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/at-first-light-walt-larimore-md/1140209026?ean=9781642939590, scroll down the page to “Customer Reviews” and click on “Write a Review”, then repeat above.
      · For Walmart, go to https://tinyurl.com/5m3au88d, scroll down to “Customer reviews & ratings”, and click on “Write a review”, then repeat above.
      · For Target, go do https://tinyurl.com/2p93c4n3, scroll down to “Guest Ratings & Reviews”, and click on “Write a review”, then repeat above.

All of the sites may want you to become a member to post a review. Please do. Then you can post your review, go back to the site the next day and cancel your membership.

Let me know at waltlarimore@mac.com when you’ve posted, on which sites you posted, and any name you used other than your own on the review (so I can see your review, know it’s you, and quit bogging your!!!).

Thanks so much for doing this for me. Potential readers LOVE these reviews, especially the 5-star reviews.

      Walt
