The WWII book about my father and his unbelievable exploits, At First Light: A True World War II Story of a Hero, His Bravery, and an Amazing Horse, was released on April 19, but my brothers and our families and friends met in Baton Rouge at LSU for the “World Premiere” of the book.

While at the “World Premiere” events of At First Light, we attended the Grand Opening of the $14 million dollar renovation of the LSU Military Museum. The governor of Louisiana, John Bel Edwards, who is a West Point graduate, asked to meet us. We had a delightful meeting with him and long-time friends Rodney and Becky Wood (Rod is the chaplain for the Louisiana Legislature). We were privileged to present him with a signed copy of the book.

On Monday, May 30, which is Memorial Day, I’ll spend an hour with my friend, Chris Fabry, on his national radio program, “Chris Fabry Live” on the Moody Radio Network. We’ll be discussing my book, At First Light. The program will air from 1:00 – 2:00 PM and will be available after the broadcast here.
I was honored that Dr. James Dobson recently re-aired a two-part interview that I recorded with him in 2019 titled, “Fit Over 50: Make Simple Choices Today for a Healthier You” based upon the book I co-wrote with my friend, Dr. Phil Bishop.

The broadcasts were on his daily national radio program, “Family Talk.” It’s been one of their more popular broadcasts. You can listen to Part One or Part Two via the links below:

“I love World War II books, and none is better than At First Light. It’s like a combination of Band of Brothers and War Horse—or perhaps a mixture of Unbroken and Seabiscuit. A mesmerizing page-turner not to be missed.”
—Pat Williams, co-founder of the NBA’s Orlando Magic
“This story is extraordinary. An almost forgotten hero: tough combat, tragic sacrifice, a marvelous horse, and an astonishing ending. Don’t miss this remarkable book.”
—Gen. David H. Petraeus, U.S. Army (Ret.) four-star general and former CIA Director
“Phil Larimore was a Dick Winters from the Band of Brothers-type of frontline, small-unit combat leader. At First Light has the makings of a great movie or Ken Burns miniseries.”
—Col. Alexander P. Shine, U.S. Army, Infantry and War College Professor (Ret.)
“One of the most fascinating stories of World War II. Heartwarming true story of a great American hero.”
—Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, U.S. Army (Ret.) three-star general
“A gripping five-star read!”
—Bob Welch, award-winning journalist and author
