April 16, 2022All of the research so far seems to say that a plant-based or Mediterranean type diet plays a role in the prevention and treatment of dementia. Now a new study published in the journal Molecular Nutrition and Food Research confirms the earlier research.
The researchers link consumption of plant-based foods with a lower risk of cognitive decline in older adults.
“A higher intake of fruits, vegetables, and plant-based foods provides polyphenols and other bioactive compounds that could help reduce the risk of cognitive decline due to aging,” said researcher Cristina Andres-Lacueva.
Therefore, changes in lifestyle and diet are decisive as a strategy to prevent cognitive deterioration and its progression in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
