Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless
July 27, 2021As we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds
July 28, 2021My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak. … Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. … For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God’s power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him.
But when (Peter) he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” … If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength! … But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged; it strikes you, and you are dismayed. … He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. … The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. … Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.
