Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”
For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?
But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.
Those who feared the LORD … “They will be mine,” says the LORD Almighty, “in the day when I make up my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.”
