In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love … since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another … If we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us … And he has given us this command: Those who love God must also love one another.
For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another … This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for one another … And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.
I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
