I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. … Desire without knowledge is not good—how much more will hasty feet miss the way! … The desire of the righteous ends only in good … what the righteous desire will be granted … Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God … by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness … prompted by faith.

Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart … He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them … May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed … The desires of my heart turn night into day.

Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
