His Requirements
December 4, 2020Into Newness
December 5, 2020He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.
I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. … He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. … Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from the deep waters. … You were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.
Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. … In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.
We went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance. … When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
