Handel’s Messiah – 3

Rejoice greatly, 0 daughter of Zion; shout, 0 daughter of Jerusalem: behold thy king cometh unto thee.

He, is the righteous Saviour (this phrase added by Handel) … he shall speak peace unto the heathen.

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing.

He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young … Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

He is despised and rejected of men: a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief … “I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.”

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows … he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him … and with his stripes we are healed.

    THANK YOU, DR. LARIMORE!
I HAVE HEARD THIS SUNG MANY TIMES BUT NEVER KNEW ALL THE WORDS! AT ONE PERFORMANCE WE HAD A JEWISH FRIEND WITH US, AND SHE ASKED “WHY DO YOU STAND
WHILE THIS IS BEING SUNG?” I TOLD HER IT WAS IN REVERENCE TO THE KING OF KINGS. SHE STILL DOES NOT RECOGNIZE CHRIST AS THE MESSIAH.
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING OUT THE WORDS FOR THIS LOVELY SONG.
    GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS!
