Reconciliation
November 18, 2020Depression
November 19, 2020I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.
Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? … I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me. You lay me in the dust of death. Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. … Being in anguish, … punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. … Jesus wept.
Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows. … For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. … Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. … As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.
I know your afflictions and your poverty—yet you are rich! Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown. …For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
