I will break down your stubborn pride and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze.
You … bring low those whose eyes are haughty. … You rebuke the arrogant, who are accursed, those who stray from your commands.
May the LORD silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue—those who say, “By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”
To the arrogant I say, “Boast no more,” and to the wicked, “Do not lift up your horns. Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak so defiantly.”
Whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not tolerate. … I (the LORD) hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.
“Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the LORD Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them.
