Live Wisely – Fear the Lord

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. … The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.  … Whoever who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.

Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the LORD, and humility comes before honor. … Better a little with the fear of the LORD than great wealth with turmoil. … Through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided. … The fear of the LORD leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble. … The fear of the LORD adds length to life.

Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD. … Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness. He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure.

  1. Hilda Harthcock says:

Last verse (part b) ‘he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness’.
    1. Is he speaking of Jerusalem or the Jews? How do I apply that verse to my life?

    Thanks, Hilda
