Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. … And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

  1. A secret or is it just the clear teaching of Scripture? No matter what befalls the child of God, God is there, even in suffering, loss and death. How we would prefer the blessings now but God knows best, and what is best for us. He knows the beginning to the end. Can trails be simply tests of our faith for the one we proclaim to love and worship. If nothing can separate us from the love of God why should we fear? Isn’t it enough for God to be there in the midst of our lives even to death as he through the Spirit imparts life to the glory of God, through Jesus our Saviour and Lord. Suffice it to hear the promises and know of the good things God has in store for his children, let us lift our hands in praise to the one who is faithful and just. His mercy and grace are never ending, his love as deep as the ocean. He is Almighty God of the universe, holy, wise, righteous, just, good and kind who holds the keys to life through Jesus Christ, the King of the Kingdom of God. Be exalted O my God, let my whole being give you the glory and praise.
