He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. … The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
I came from the Father and entered the world. … I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. … I do not give to you as the world gives.
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. … I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. … As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.
What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. … Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
