Behind the curtain
October 20, 2019I redeemed you from the land of slavery
October 21, 2019She did what she could. … This poor widow has put in more than all the others. … They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.
Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward. … Will receive a hundred times as much. … God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. … For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. … Love must be sincere. … Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? … If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? … Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same. … The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. … So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, “We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.”
