The Lord God commanded the man, “You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” … When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. … Then he died.

For the wages of sin is death. … All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. … If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. … Sin so grievous.

I am too ashamed and disgraced, my God, to lift up my face to you, because our sins are higher than our heads and our guilt has reached to the heavens.
