If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! … You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. … Do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. … All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. … Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. … You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. … But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
