Family Update
We had two momentous events in our family this month:
- Barb’s 60thBirthday
- Jan 6, Barb and I shared a special dinner at the new Summit Restaurant at the Broadmoor Hotel to celebrate her 60th birthday.
- Jan 7, some dear friends hosted a surprise 60th birthday for Barb. It was appropriately affirming and honoring for such a wonderful woman. Not only did quite a number of dear friends weather a fierce snow storm to be there, but many, many sent cards and notes that Barb will hold dear for the rest of her life. Thanks to all of you who took the time to honor her!
- Barb’s Dad Graduates to Glory
- Jan 11-18, Barb was in Baton Rouge again to help her mom care for her dad. As it turned out, she was blessed to be at his side, along with her mother, aunt, brother, and sister as her dad passed on Saturday, January 14. It was a peaceful and blessed passing.
- Jan 15-21, I joined Barb for her father’s memorial service and interment. It was a special time for the family.
Publishing Update
1) Walt’s New Devotional
I’ve begun a free on-line devotional. It’s called Morning Glory, Evening Grace, which is released twice a day—once in the morning and again in the evening.
You can learn more about the devotional here and you can sign up to receive a twice-a-day email notice of each devotional here.
2) Article in Significant Living magazine
In this month’s edition of Significant Living, I have an article about my mentor of the last 25 years, dairyman Bill Judge. You can read the article, “Mentored by a Milker of Cows” here.
3) First Endorsement for The Ultimate Guy’s Body Book: Not-So-Stupid Questions About Your Body
My book for boys going through puberty, and their dads, The Ultimate Guy’s Body Book, is scheduled to be released by ZonderKidz in March. I was pleased and honored that my friend, Jim Daly, the President of Focus on the Family, was the first to endorse the book:
Dr. Walt Larimore does a great job of tackling the questions that so many young men have but might be afraid to ask. His professional knowledge, combined with fatherly concern and a biblical viewpoint, make this book a must-read for men-in-the-making—as well as for parents looking for guidance on how to talk about tough topics.

4) First Review for The Ultimate Guy’s Body Book
In addition, The Ultimate Guy’s Body Book, has received its first professional review by the Kirkus Review:
THE ULTIMATE GUYS’ BODY BOOK: Not-So-Stupid Questions About Your Body
“Dr. Walt” offers advice with a Christian perspective for boys wondering about their bodies as they enter puberty.
More specifically, this is a volume aimed at Christian fathers of boys ages 10 to 13, so fathers can be ready with answers to sometimes tricky questions.
Topics are covered through 30 questions on how boys’ bodies change, how much sleep is necessary, what if friends try alcohol, how to avoid pornography, what’s wrong with tattoos and body piercings and even three questions about testicles.
It’s purportedly information readers can trust, presented “through the lens of a biblical worldview,” all reviewed by the Christian Medical Association. God is the common denominator behind all answers here.
Differences in penis size? It’s “the way God designed each one of us.” Masturbation? “Sexual fantasies are forbidden for Christians.” In Larimore’s perspective, “God invented sex,” but only “to be experienced between a husband and a wife in marriage.”
Parents wanting to stay within the confines of Christian doctrine will find this volume informative. Other readers may want to go elsewhere to find a guide more open to a more encompassing worldview.
A useful guide for readers wanting a Christian look at boys’ physical and sexual development.
5) 15th Printing of Lintball Leo
When the first printing of Lintball Leo’s Not-So-Stupid Questions About Your Body was released for 8-12 year old boys back in 2003, I had no idea how helpful it would be to parents as they coach and guide their boys through adolescence.
Now I’ve just learned that the little book “that could” is entering its 15th printing. I’m grateful it has helped so many.
6) Professional Article
This month I had a letter to the editor published in Family Practice Management. Titled, “Take SOAP to SNOCAMP,” you can view the letter here.

- Jan 28-Feb 4, we were on a Caribbean cruise where I taught a continuing medical education (CME) course for healthcare professionals on the use of natural medications (herbs, vitamins, and supplements) for various chronic medical conditions. We considered this week a gift from the Lord, as it was scheduled long before Barb’s dad passed. The time of rest, relaxation, and recovery were just what the doctor ordered. We feel renewed and refreshed now. However, we arrived home last night to find over two feet of snow and temperatures in the single digits. Welcome back to reality!!!
