Carbohydrate-rich foods linked to increased breast cancer risk

The Los Angeles Times “Booster Shots” blog reports that “increased carbohydrate intake was associated with a higher rate of breast cancer recurrence in survivors of the disease,” according to a study presented at the 2011 San Antonio Breast Cancer Conference.
HealthDay reports that a researcher “looked at changes in the amount of carbohydrates, particularly starchy foods such as potatoes, that breast cancer survivors ate over a one-year period.”
She said, “Women who increased their carbohydrates and particularly their starch intake had a greater risk of recurrence than the women who decreased [it].”
