Here are the contents of this month’s Family Newsletter:
I’m in the midst of a crazy week of travel, teaching, and speaking, but after this weekend things slow down significantly and we are looking forward to a time of rest and recuperation.
Barb is enjoying a woman’s book study of Mudhouse Sabbath: An Invitation to a Life of Spiritual Discipline. She’s especially delighting in learning more about Judiasm and the impact that Jewish teaching and practice can have on our lives as Christians.
I’m still experiencing much joy in writing and in my work as Medical Director of the Mission Medical Clinic in Colorado Springs.
Both Barb and I have been working on improving our diet and nutrition, as well as increasing our physical exercise. We’re losing weight, keeping it off, and pleased with the benefits it’s having on our physical and emotional health.
As we head towards a season of Thanksgiving, we are thankful for our spiritual health, our love for and marriage to each other, our family, our work, and, you, our dear friends.
‘Publishing Update
1) Endorsements for Hazel Creek
As my first solo novel, Hazel Creek, heads toward release next March, more endorsments are coming in. I’m stoked about the initial positive feedback and wanted to share a few with you.
“In Hazel Creek, author Walt Larimore tells a story woven through with timeless themes of family, friendship, and faith. He deftly recaptures life in the Great Smoky Mountains in the mid 1920s through the eyes of fifteen-year-old Abbie Randolph, weaving in both love and loss and the occasional lyrics of songs that add a sweet touch of music to the story.”
—Beth K. Vogt, author of Wish You Were Here
“Larimore captures both the natural beauty and the culture of the people who once lived there that makes Hazel Creek one of the most beloved sections of the Great Smoky Mountains.”
—Daniel S. Pierce, Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Asheville and author of The Great Smokies
Hazel Creek is an American portrait of day-to-day life in the early 20’s. Through the eyes of young Abbie, we feel the struggles, courage, determination, and faith of the Randolph family. This glimpse into the past stirs the heart and leaves us wanting more.
—David Stevens, MD, CEO, Christian Medical & Dental Associations, author of Jesus MD, and co-author of Leadership Proverbs
2) Cover for Hazel Creek
So, here’s the proposed cover for my new novel. What do you think?
3) Finished Writing Sugar Fork
The sequel to Hazel Creek (see above) is tentatively titled Sugar Fork. The manuscript was due to the published on October 17, and I was able to turn it in on time. The release date is set for October 2012, which will be about 6 months after the release of Hazel Creek.
4) Update on the Guy’s Body Book
My book for boys heading toward and through puberty, The Guys’ Body Book: Not-so-stupid questions about your body, has been assigned a new role at ZonderKidz.
The publisher now wants to produce resources to allow dads to use the book during a special “weekend away” with their sons. I’m excited about this development and hope it will help many, many dads in teaching and coaching their sons throught the potentially perilous waters of puberty.
I’m still waiting to review the galleys. As far as I know, the book is still scheduled for publication in March 2012.
