A new study involving over 60,000 children published in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine reports that “the trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) does NOT seem to be associated with serious adverse events.” Researchers found that as in earlier studies, there was “a significant, temporal relationship between vaccine administration and only four acute, nonserious conditions:
However, for children receiving “multiple doses of TIV, the authors observed an apparent dose response between the vaccine and allergic reactions in the one- to three-day risk window.”
Overall, however, the study authors concluded that the vaccine is safe for young children. And, it’s not only safe, but highly effective!
