August 24, 2011Kids benefit from flu vaccine via shot or nasal spray, study finds
August 26, 2011The AP reports, “Federal health officials are warning of serious dangers for pregnant women who get the flu.” And the good news is that these dangers are preventable. The CDC is preparing “for the next flu season, and CDC medical officer Dr. Denise Jamieson says pregnant women who “get the flu are ‘more likely to end up in an intensive care unit or even to die.’”
There are many reasons, according to Dr. Jamieson, the “big ones are changes in the immune system and physical changes to the uterus that stretches and pushes on the lungs.”
The bottom line, if you’re pregnant, now’s the time to get your influenza vaccine to prevent these potential complications.
