Experts concerned about growing number of youth with type 2 diabetes

In a past blog I told you that “Type 2 diabetes (is) appearing more often in kids.” Now that story is worsening.
In my book, SuperSized Kids: How to protect your child from the obesity threat, I warn that the childhood obesity epidemic was leading to dramatic increases in the number of kids with diabetes and cardiovascular disease and could shorten their life expectancy.
Now we’re beginning another reason why this may be coming true.
USA Today reports, “Experts are becoming increasingly concerned about the growing number of people in their 20s and 30s coping with type 2 diabetes, which used to be rarely seen in those under 40.”
And, “as diabetes becomes more prevalent in young people, the long-term complications of the condition – cardiovascular problems like high blood pressure and high cholesterol, nerve damage, blindness and kidney failure – are more likely to occur at younger ages, too, says David Kendall, chief scientific and medical officer for the American Diabetes Association.”
Kendall stated “Children and young adults, and young middle-aged people, are the groups in which the rates are apparently growing the fastest.”
If you want to prevent or treat childhood overweight or obesity in your family, I’ve written a book to help you. In the book, SuperSized Kids: How to protect your child from the obesity threat, I and my coauthors offer you chapter after chapter of tips and tricks that you can begin applying in your family today.

The book is currently on clearance sale, while supplies last, at my on-line bookstore here.
