1) Broadcast about Miscarriage
Have you or a woman you love suffered the heartbreak miscarriage?
Barb and I had the privilege of discussing our difficult journey through four miscarriages with Dr. James Dobson on his nationally-syndicated radio program, Family Talk, on Monday, May 9 and Tuesday May 10.
We were on with Dr. Dobson and another couple who have also walked this difficult road.
We were praying many would be impacted by our testimony. This is just one of the notes we received about the programs.
I listened to Dr Dobson’s program yesterday and I was so moved by your wife’s testimony and candid description of her emotions and strength that only God was able to give her during trying times.
Thank you for sharing and giving hope to many that experienced the pain of losing a baby.
Many blessings to both of you and I am so grateful the Lord gave me the opportunity to meet you and watch your kind and humble way of life.

2) Broadcast about Busting the Stress of Motherhood
On Wednesday, May 11, I appeared on the Internet TV show, Your Family Live, discussing the theme of “Stress Busters for Moms.” I was interviewed by my friends Yvette Maher and Juli Slattery and was blessed to have the opportunity to share with so many folks.

Publishing Update
1) Significant Living Article
My most recent article in the Significant Living magazine is: Your Hopes and Dreams: The essentials of discovering your destiny.
The article begins this way:
Thomas Edison once said, “If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.” I’d alter his words a bit to say, “If we all did what we were destined to do, we would live astounding lives!”

There is a common thread in the life of just about every patient of mine who is in the twilight of his or her life. Virtually all have delayed for decades doing something they longed to do. Unfortunately, many of my patients have spent a great portion of their lives seeking to please others instead of finding the path their Creator has charted for them.

2) Today’s Christian Doctor Article
I was very pleased to write an article honoring my mentor and dear friend of over twenty-five years, Bill Judge. The article, Mentored by a Milker of Cows: God can use you to help someone else, was published in Today’s Christian Doctor, the journal of the Christian Medical and Dental Associations.
The article begins this way:
I knew I needed a mentor. I was busy with my career as a physician—too busy for my family. My priorities were out of whack. I needed someone who would encourage me and keep me on track. So I asked the pastors who came through the hospital, “Who’s the one layperson you know in this area who looks most like Jesus?” When I heard the name Bill Judge multiple times, I said, “This is a guy I’d like to meet.”

3) My first solo novel scheduled for release
I’ve had the privilege of co-authoring two novels with my dear friend, Paul McCusker. And now, I’m in the process of writing my first two solo novels (The Gabon Virus and The Influenza Bomb). The first, Hazel Creek, is scheduled to be released next spring. I thought you might like to see what they are planning to put on the back cover:
In the Hazel Creek Valley of the Great Smoky Mountains, Nathan and Callie Randolph, with their five unique daughters, wrestle to maintain their farm, forests, family, and faith against an unforgiving wilderness. An evil lumber company manager is seeking by every means possible to pilfer their land and clear cut their virgin forest.
A cast of colorful characters, including a menacing stranger, gypsy siblings, a granny midwife, and a world-famous writer … even a flesh-and-blood Haint … collide in a gripping struggle of good and evil amidst eruptions of violence and tragedy. Our heroine, fifteen-year-old Abbie Randolph, has to help save her family’s farm and raise her sisters while preserving her faith.
This important story, based upon almost ten years of research and four years of living in the area, captures the speech, ways, and beliefs of these unique pioneers at a crucial and irreversible turning point in this Smoky Mountains community of the Southern Appalachians. With the march of the industrial age, especially commercial lumbering, the traditional life and ways of our southern highlanders in general, and the Randolphs in particular, were about to change forever.
Walt Larimore has been called one of “America’s best-known family physicians” and is listed in “Distinguished Physicians of America,” “The Best Doctors in America,” and “Who’s Who in America.” Walt was awarded the 2004 “Christianity Today Book of the Year Award” for cowriting “Going Public with Your Faith: Becoming a Spiritual Influence at Work” and he has been a Gold Medallion Book Award finalist three times. He also authored the best-selling Bryson City books and coauthored the TSI series with Paul McCusker. He lives in Monument, Colorado.
Events of the last month

• May 4^th, I turned in the edits on my first solo novel, Hazel Creek, to Howard Books (an imprint of Simon & Schuster). It should be out next spring. See the entry above about the back cover copy.
• May 5, Barb and I hosted a table and I spoke at a fund-raiser for the Mission Medical Clinic of Colorado Springs. The event exceeded our expectations and we were delighted to be able to share it with a number of dear friends.
• May 6, Barb and I attended another local fund-raiser, this one for the Northern Churches Cares ministry in Colorado Springs.
• May 7-8, Kate spent Mother’s Day weekend with us. We had a delightful weekend of rest and relaxation.
• May 11, Barb and I attended a Life Network Board Meeting in Colorado Springs. We love the work that these great people do.
• May 16-18, Barb and I attended the Legacy Gathering of HCJB Global. This gathering brought HCJB missionaries from around the globe to Colorado Springs for fellowship and renewal and to celebrate the 80^th birthday of this wonderful ministry.
• May 19-20, I attended the International Board meeting of HCJB Global in Colorado Springs and continue to learn more and more about their very important work around the globe.
• May 22-26, I flew to Tulsa, OK, to spend time as a visiting professor at the In His Image Family Medicine Residency Program. I’m always blessed being with the faculty and staff there. And, while there, I had a unique evening. I was staying with our dear friends, Rick and Patti Stitcher when a powerful storm blew into the area. The tornado sirens went off and we scurried into their safe room and bolted the steel door to wait out the storm. Fortunately, their neighborhood was spared, although a neighborhood not far from them had 30 homes destroyed.
• May 28-30, for the first time in years, we had the entire Memorial Day weekend at home together. We’re had some wonderful gardening together!

Upcoming Events

• June 4-11, Barb will travel to Baton Rouge to visit with family and friends.
• June 4, I’ll travel to Las Vegas to speak at the American Academy of Physician Assistants 39^th Annual Conference. They call the event ImPAct. I’m scheduled to speak on the topic of “Natural Medications for Hyperlipidemia: An evidence-based appraisal.” Right after speaking, I’ll fly home.
• June 6-9, I’ll travel to Nebraska to speak for several county Health Departments:
• June 6, I’ll be in North Platte speaking to the public on “SuperSized Kids: How to protect your child from the obesity epidemic.”
• June 7, I’ll be in Holdrege, Kearney, and Lexington speaking to the public on “Eat This, Don’t Eat That: Protecting your child from the obesity epidemic.”
• June 8, I’ll be in Lincoln speaking to healthcare and education professionals on “SuperSized Kids: How to protect your child from the obesity epidemic.”
• June 16, I’ll be giving a Grand Rounds at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs on “Natural Medications for the Treatment of Osteoporosis: An evidence-based appraisal.”
• June 23-26, Barb and I will travel to the Western Hills Resort in eastern Oklahoma for the Summer Retreat of the In His Image Family Medicine Residency Program. At this event, we’ll welcome the incoming interns, celebrate the first year’s completion of internship, judge the research projects of the second years, and graduate and ordinate the graduating third years.
