Family Update
This is a month of vacation for the Larimores – resting and recuperating for the fall writing and speaking season. Here are some of my favorite quotes about summer:

  • A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.  ~ James Dent
  • To see the summer sky is Poetry, though never in a book it lie. ~ Emily Dickinson
  • I question not if thrushes sing, if roses load the air; beyond my heart I need not reach when all is summer there. ~ John Vance Cheney
  • There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart.  ~ Celia Thaxter
  • In summer, the song sings itself.  ~ William Carlos Williams
  • Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.  ~ Sam Keen
  • Summer afternoon – summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.  ~ Henry James
  • Then followed that beautiful season … Summer … Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood. ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
  • Summer is the time when one sheds one’s tensions with one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit.  A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all’s right with the world.  ~ Ada Louise Huxtable

Have a great summer, everyone … at least what remains.
Publishing Update
Great Reviews for “The Influenza Bomb” Continue
I’m so grateful the my latest novel, co-written with Paul McCusker, continues to receive great reviews. If you’d like a signed copy for you or for friends, they can be ordered here.
Here are some recent reviews:

  • … it was a wonderful, fast paced read. Very easy to follow and the action and chase of the source of the virus grab you right off of the first page. From there on out you are taken on a intriguing adventure around the world trying to track down Return to Earth, a notorious eco-terrorist group, and who is spreading another dose of the deadly virus called The Spanish Flu of 1918.
  • This book is a great read. Thought provoking and terrifically written. If you know anything about History, the medical field, or just love a great fast page-turner adventure this is the book for you! I highly recommend it!
  • The Influenza Bomb is a chilling, suspenseful novel that just might actually happen. Compelling conflict, realistic dialogue and a fast paced race against time. It’s one of those books I’ll want to read more than once.
  • Personally I loved this book as much as the first in the series, and couldn’t put it down for long. It is hard charging and suspense filled with characters that have depth that you care about. … It is a fascinating work of fiction that involves Nazi hideouts, dastardly villains and new technology taken to frightening levels of abuse. I loved it!
  • TSI: Influenza bomb is a fast pace suspensful novel that could actually take place. Once you get started reading you won’t be able to put it down.  I was on the edge of my seat turning the page. I was terrified and excited. The characters are real and the enemies pure evil. The novel also deals with the power of forgiveness. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! I give this book 5 stars out of 5. I love it!
  • The narrative is “Peppered with scientific details that brings the story to life” with a “ghastly list of what if’s,” according to Harry Kraus, MD. While Alton Ganske prays the story “never becomes a news headline he writes TSI is “engaging, innovative, entertaining and downright scary.” I agree with them both! The realistic plot, engaging characters and non-stop action-suspense kept me reading long after “lights out.” Put this dynamic writing duo on your watch list.

Events of the last month

  • July 9-16, Barb will fly to Baton Rouge to visit with her family.
  • July 9-11, I flew to Orlando to speak for the Florida Academy of Family Physicians. I served as the president of the FAFP from 1995 – 1996, and it was great fun to see old friends.
  • July 11-16, I flew to Tulsa and served the week as a visiting professor at the In His Image Family Medicine Residency program. Although these weeks are always jam-packed with meetings and teaching, they are always a blessing for me. This one was no different.
  • The rest of the month, I worked on completing the edits for Hazel Creek, which I had hoped to complete by July 29 … but did not. Fortunately, the publisher has given me a couple of extra weeks to get her done!

Upcoming Events

  • July 29 – Aug 3, Barb and I are enjoying a short beach vacation in Vero Beach, Florida with dear friends.
  • Aug 4 – 5, Barb and I will drive to Kissimmee (where we lived from 1985 – 2001) where I am scheduled to make a presentation at the National Medical Association on “Natural Medications for Menopausal Symptoms.”
  • Aug 6 – 10, Barb and I will fly to Baton Rouge to visit with family and to attend our … gulp … 40 year high school reunion. Can we be that old?
  • Aug 14, I’ll spend all day in Denver at a diabetes CME.
  • Aug 28, we’ll fly to Pensacola to enjoy a family beach vacation with Kate, Scott, and his family. We’re staying on the bay side of the island, which, so far (fingers crossed) has no oil contamination.
