AMA adopts new policy on anti-aging and bioidentical hormones

The American Medical Association (AMA) says there’s no scientific proof to back up the claims of anti-aging or so-called ‘bioidentical’ hormones. And, quite frankly, I have to agree.
More Information:
According to an AP report carried in USA Today, the AMA has “adopted a new policy on products, such as HGH, DHEA, and testosterone, used as aging remedies” at its annual meeting.
The AMA noted that “with HGH . . . evidence suggests long-term use can present more risks than benefits.”
The AMA also said that when it comes to hormone therapy for menopause, “there’s no credible evidence that other hormones, so-called bio-identicals, are safer than traditional estrogen and progesterone products.”
You can ready more about my views on bioidentical hormones as well as natural medications for menopausal symptoms here
The AMA called for “rigorous studies to prove, or disprove . . . claims” by “anti-aging hormone promoters.”
In the meantime, you can read more about these alternative therapies in my book, Alternative Medicine: The Christian Handbook.

  1. I read your article with an open mind.
However, I don’t understand why or how some people say that bioidentical hormones don’t work. Millions of women are using them and find bioidentical hormones work to treat their symptoms of menopause. Sorry to be a bit controversial.

You’re not being controversial at all. I appreciate your comments. However, the truth is that there is no compelling scientific evidence that bioidentical hormones are safe or effective. And, they may be harmful. You can read more details about this in an earlier blog of mine. You can find it at Dr. Walt
