Each month I post our Larimore family newsletter here in the blog. The newsletter usually includes family news, publication updates, broadcast updates, events of the last month, and upcoming events.

Family Update
What a weather month we’ve had. After a fairly mild winter, April came in like a lion. We had at least four significant snowfalls – two of them leaving about two feet of snow behind. Although snows like these significantly change one’s schedule, they certainly are beautiful!
We’d like to share some exciting news with you. When we visited our son, Scott, and his family, Jennifer and one-year-old Anna Katherine, in Atlanta last month, Anna Kate was wearing a shirt that said, “Big Sister.”
What a cute way for the kids to announce to us that they were pregnant with #2 – who is due in November.
While Jennifer’s been working in her Post-Doctoral position at Emory (she received her PhD in neurobiology last year), Scott’s been a stay-at-home dad. But, they’ve been praying about a position for him that would mesh with her research. Here’s a note Jennifer recently posted on her blog:
This has just been beyond our dreams that I had to share it with you.
Once we got to Atlanta, we prayed for a job for Scott that would allow one of us to be home with AK (Anna Katherine) at all times as well as something he would love and enjoy and feel like he was making the world a much cooler place.
A tall order – especially in this economy. And, like the Israelites that we are, we had moments of doubt and grumbling.
but,
Scott this week has been substitute teaching at a private school (connected to the church that planted our church of All Souls Fellowship). He has loved it.
and
the younger grades only go to school for half days.
so,
my boss’ attitude has been “as long as your projects are progressing, I do not care what hours you keep.Yyou will be missed, but, do what you need to do.”
so,
I have been able to stay with Anna Date Friday until Scott got home at noon, Tuesday until Scott got home at noon, and today until noon.
and
The days that I have not, our neighbors are friends. One of them is a nanny. On Monday, she took Anna Kate for the day and today she took her for a few hours.
and
It looks like a very cool place to send Anna Kate, when the time comes.
A solution more perfect than we could imagine!
Happy us! Thanks for your encouragement and prayers through this!
Publication Update
My first novel, Time Scene Investigators: The Eyam Factor, co-written with Paul McCusker, will be out in early August. However, writer and attorney, Cara Putman, has posted the first brief review of the book that I’ve seen. I thought this might wet your appetite for reading the book when it’s out:
The Eyam Factor – Walt Larimore & Paul McCusker
A top-secret group of forensic scientists investigates the past to save the future when a deadly plague infects innocent people. But as they study how an English village survived the 17th-century Black Death, they encounter 21st-century grave robberies, grisly murders, and a ghost! Who’s trying to stop them from learning the truth — and why?
Cara here: This book is one reason the others are still in process. It’s a suspense on a global scale – had some Clancyesque feel to it. LOVED it! Not for the faint of heart. Releases in August.
I have an article, The Obesity Crisis–It’s a Killer Epidemic on the All-Pro Dad website. You can view the article here.
Nice Blog about Bryon City Tales
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29, 2009
My library recently put the inter library loan feature online, which has prompted me to remember all the books I’ve wanted to read, but could never remember when I was corralling four children at the library. Oh happy day!
The first book on my list was Bryson City Tales by Dr. Walt Larimore. Glen and I had the privilege of getting to know Walt & Barb when we lived in Florida. We attended the same church, and Barb was the one who first invited me to Bible Study Fellowship (for which I am eternally grateful!). When I heard about Walt’s Bryson City books, I knew I wanted to read them.
Bryson City Tales does not disappoint. In this book, Walt takes us on his own journey from the end of his medical residency to finding a community in which to settle (Bryson City) and the process of settling in. He honestly relates his mistakes, his passions (for football? I didn’t know!), and his attempts to make connections in a very small, rather closed, community.
And there’s plenty of drama too. From a very difficult home delivery in the next county to almost losing his medical privileges at the hospital, with a few veterinary calls thrown in, I found it difficult to put the book down. I’m looking forward to reading the next two books Bryson City Seasons and Bryson City Secrets.
The only thing I wonder about – and perhaps because I know them – is how did Barb find herself connecting to the community? This is Dr. Walt’s story, so while his wife is mentioned many times, he focuses on his own experiences. But, I do wonder . . .
Dr. Walt has an article in Significant Living Magazine
My article, Metabolic Syndrome: What you don’t know will hurt you, appeared in the March/April edition of the Significant Living magazine (2009[Mar/Apr];3[2]:pages 11,45).
Broadcast Update
TV … how much is too much? Dr. Larimore challenges parents to reduce the amount of TV their kids watch, and to get the TV out of their children’s bedrooms. Watching this video might convince you to take up this resolution, for the sake of your child’s mind and body.
Dr. James Dobson’s two-day interview with the Larimores on their book, His Brain, Her Brain, is scheduled to be broadcast on his daily Focus on the Family radio program on July 6-7.
On or after July 6 you can listen to the broadcast on your computer by going to the Focus on the Family Daily Broadcast webpage here.
Also, you can find a radio station in your area at carries the program here.
