Family Update
Dr. Walt and Barb had two opportunities this month to spend time with granddaughter Anna Katherine. The first was when she and her father, Scott, flew to Colorado Springs to spend November 15-19.
They had some very, very special times together. Scott is such a good daddy and it warmed Walt and Barb’s hearts to see his precious interactions with and care for his daughter. They just missed visiting with Jennifer, who had to stay in Atlanta.
Barb and Dr. Walt, along with Kate and Scott, were scheduled to be in the studio with Dr. James Dobson at Focus on the Family discussing the difficult issues of child abuse with which the Larimores wrestled while living in Bryson City, NC, in the early 1980’s.
The Larimores were all praying for the strength to endure what they thought might be a stressful recording – having to relive and relate some difficult circumstances from the past; however, they were also praying that this broadcast would be an encouragement for many and help many others protect their children.
They were also praying that the taping would be a witness to the healing power of forgiveness for families even in the midst of difficult challenges.
Unfortunately, due to an emergency at Focus, Dr. Dobson had to cancel the recording; however, he has committed to reschedule for the spring. The Larimores all sense that God is in control and that His timing is perfect.
However, earlier that same day, Dr. Walt and Barb recorded a series of radio broadcasts with Dr. Dobson about their book, His Brain, Her Brain – How divinely designed differences can strengthen your marriage.
In the studio for the broadcast was the entire student body who are attending the Focus on the Family Institute. Their questions, toward the end of the broadcast were wonderful and we were honored to be with them.
Tentatively the broadcast is scheduled for February 11 and 12, 2009.
The second visit with the fetching Miss Anna Katherine was during a long Thanksgiving weekend in Baton Rouge. Scott, Jen, and Anna Katherine drove from Atlanta, while Dr. Walt, Barb, and Kate flew.
All three of Dr. Walt’s brothers and their families came into the Baton Rouge area for a family reunion – the first time all of the brothers have been together since their mom died two years ago.
It was a special holiday indeed – with much fellowship and much to be thankful for.

Events of the last month
Oct 29- Nov 4 Dr. Walt taught at the In His Image Family Medicine Residency in Tulsa, OK. He was especially pleased to be able to teach the first year residents portions of the curricula he wrote with Pastor Bill Peel called The Saline Solution. It’s a course that teaches healthcare professionals how to be salt and light in the practice of medicine. As always, his socks were blessed off by working with the residents there.
While Dr. Walt was in Tulsa, Barb spent a wonderful weekend with women from Orlando that she has discipled in the past. They met at the Larimore home in Monument. Kate was able to join the festivities and the group was able to help Kate celebrate her 30th birthday.
Nov 6-8 The Larimores attended a Life Network Board Retreat in Estes Park, Colorado. This life-affirming ministry is doing so much good work and the Larimores are delighted to be able to serve with them. The retreat was a special time of bonding for the Board members.
Nov 8-12 Scott and Anna Katherine visited the Larimores in Monument. They had some very, very special times together. Scott is such a good daddy and it warmed Walt and Barb’s hearts to see his precious interactions with and care for his daughter. They just missed visiting with Jennifer, who had to stay in Atlanta.
Nov 11 Barb and Dr. Walt recorded a radio broadcast with Dr. James Dobson at Focus on the Family about their book, His Brain, Her Brain – How divinely designed differences can strengthen your marriage. In the studio for the broadcast was the entire student body who are attending the Focus on the Family Institute. Their questions, toward the end of the broadcast were wonderful. Tentatively the broadcast is scheduled for February 11 and 12, 2009.
Nov 12-13 The Larimores flew to Memphis to visit a Christian Clinic for the poor. They picked up a lot of ideas to use at their Mission Medical Clinic in Colorado Springs. They also had a fabulous barbeque dinner at The Commissary in Germantown and visited with close friends, Al and Becky Weir, in Memphis, TN.
Nov 13 The Larimores drove to Blue Springs, Mississippi, to visit a dear, dear friend, Leanna Hollis, at her farm. They had a lovely country lunch, toured her farm, and then drove to Corinth, where Dr. Walt spoke at their CPC’s Annual Fundraiser Banquet. The event was an all-around success. The Larimores are always blessed to be able to minister with these wonderful organizations. After the banquet, they drove back to Memphis for the night.
Nov 14 Barb and Walt flew to Milwaukee and then drove to Madison, Wisconsin, to visit and share dinner with Walt’s brother, Billy, his wife, Karen, and their daughter, Kristine. After dinner they drove to Pauwaukee (between Madison and Milwaukee).
Nov 15 Walt spoke at the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Christian Life Resources. It was a wonderful event. The Larimores then spent the day listening to several excellent speakers and sharing a meaningful visit with a missionary family physician and his family.
Nov 16 Barb and Walt shared lunch with Pastor Bob Fleischman, the founder and Executive Director of Christian Life Resources, and his wife and then flew home.
Nov 17 The Larimores celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Barb let Walt know that the “Burger Bash” at the local bowling alley in Monument was not an appropriate venue for their evening celebration. But, they enjoyed a wonderful celebration at home and spent time reflecting on many warm and wonderful memories.
Nov 25 – Dec 3 Barb and Walt flew to Baton Rouge to enjoy Thanksgiving with their families. All of Walt’s brothers and their families were there and the Larimore boys had an excellent time of reunion – their first since their mother died two years ago. In addition, Kate, Scott, Jennifer, and Anna Katherine all came to Baton Rouge. It was a joyful time for them all.

Recently on TV channel KTLN, “A Mother’s Legacy” was aired relating a story of a child named Kate Larimore, born with only a quarter of a left brain, and who was living at age 30 and was able to speak and function as a normal person. I have written to the TV station asking them to authenticate this story, but have receivd no reply. My reserch finds no such person. Further reseaarch finds that you have a daughter named Kate Larimore. Is this story supposed to be about your daughter, Kate?. I question the authentisity of this TV story. Would you please advise. Your reply will be appreciated.
Hello, Virginia.
Thanks for your note. Indeed, the story was about our daughter, Kate. She is real. And the story is true.
Blessings.

Dear Dr. and Mrs. Larimore,
Kate and I were students at Samford together, and I’ve lost touch with her over the years. I found this website, though, and am excited that we might be able to get back in touch! Would you mind passing my email address on to her?
Thanks so much, and continued blessings on your ministry!
Rebecca
P.S. I, too, can vouch for Kate’s authenticity :).
Hi Rebecca,
I’ll forward your email address to Kate. I bet she’ll be delighted to hear from you.
